Are recruiters selecting on looks?

The Economist recently published an article about a study by 2 Israeli academics who found that, in countries where candidates attach a photo of themselves to CV's, attractive men are more likely to be interviewed than attractive women. It appears that this is because HR departments are made up largely of women. The authors of the study concluded that the practice of including photos with job applications should be abandoned.

Thank goodness this isn't common practice anyway in the UK. We would hope successful applicants are getting the job due to their skills and experience, not because of the way they look!
